thrifting and a winner!

Prayers work, ya'll.
Let me give an example...
So the other night I literally thought I was dying.
I had this horrible stabbing pain in my right abdomen...
So what did The Tedward do?
He hopped onto WebMD, what else?
Duh.
So after a careful investigation we decided it HAD to be appendicitis.
Now, at this point, I was freaking out because we don't have the money to go to the hospital.
Let alone, the money to have an un-useful organ taken out.
Do we risk paying for a hospital visit when it could be nothing?
We didn't know what to do...
So we prayed.
And prayed again.
And then prayed some more.
Finally I said, "Heavenly Father....if my stomach hurts just a titch more than it does now, then that will be you telling me we have to go to the hospital."
And sure enough, it never got any worse.
However, my stomach still hurt.
Here is me the next morning, with a tummy ache...
Awful, right?
Turns out it was gas.
Awesome.
So what I am saying is...Heavenly Father answers prayers.
He let me know that I shouldn't go spend a ton of money at the hospital, when I all I had was gas.
Here is the picture I posted on twitter on Saturday, to let people know I was still alive...

Anyway, just thought I would share that little gem of spiritual upliftness...

-----------------------

So, it's safe to say I loooooooove a good thrift store.
It's also safe to say I loooooooove clothes.
Ask Ted.
The laundry is never ending, and let's face it...The Tedward does my laundry.
Anywho, this past week I have found a bounty of awesomeness at the "Lauren thrift store".
The "Lauren thrift store" is code for, "I will never tell you the location of the one I shop at".
Now that we have got that out of the way....

1. Designer black, lace dress for.....5 dollars!

dress: 5 dollars
necklace: gift for my wedding by....Lanae! {thanks girl..it's my favorite}
shrug: handmade, by the mama face...she is bomb.

Detail of the hem...
I love that the lace hangs a little bit longer than the lining.

2. Mini dress + sweater + leggings :)
I teamed this sleeveless, mini dress with a sweater and leggings to make it Lauren-wearable :)
Dress: thrifted for 3 dollars {Forever 21}
Sweater: thrifted for 4 dollars {JUICY COUTURE!}
Belt: thrifted for 1 dollar {Rampage}

Sweater detail...
There was a stain on the sweater, so I went to JoAnn's Fabrics and picked out a lightweight fabric in a similar shade and I hand-sewed a rosette onto the sweater. Loooove it :)
If there is a stain or a rip in a thrift store piece, always think of a way you can fix it!
{especially when the sweater is Juicy Couture!}

3. Cute Cute Cute top.
I found this top for 2 dollars from Necessary Objects.
The sleeves were just a teeny bit to short, so I paired it with, yet again..the shrug :)
BTW...the skirt I am wearing is from the thrift store too. It was 6 dollars, by J-Crew.

4. This was Ted's favorite...
Top: thrifted for 2 dollars, by Banana Republic
Skirt: thrifted for 6 dollars by The Limited
Belt: Marshall's, 4 dollars

5. I love me some houndstooth!
So I pretty much an in love with houndstooth.
I dream of owning a houndstooth sofa, one day.
Anyway, when I saw this dress...I knew I had to have it.
There were horrible shoulder pads in it, and a horrible belt...but I took care of that!

Dress: thrifted for 2 dollars, vintage.
Belt: thrifted for fifty cents, {rampage}
You KNOW I had to pair it with my favorite yellow belt.

Adding the rossette to the sweater...brilliant! I wish we had decent thrift stores where I live. Then again, maybe we do, but since I never go to them, I'm just missing out! This fall when all my kids are in school and I'm huge and prego, maybe I'll peruse some local thrift shops. (cuz let's face it, thrift store shopping with children in tow...not so much fun!)

LOVE the Houndstooth dress!

Oh yeah, so glad that you're feeling better!

Um, hi! I am incredibly jealous of your thrifting superpowers! I never find stuff that good. We have "higher end" thrift stores here but they know that the clothes are good brands and price them so.

I loooove that black dress! Gorgeous! And that black top is a gorgeous cut, it looks very flattering.

And that lovely mini dress/sweater/leggings combo with the red belt? Kinda reminds me of Blair from GG.

I really need to find a good thrift store in my area! I want to look as cute as all of this!

Also, I too have thought my life was ending from stomach pain only to find out it's gas. I was lying on the couch bemoaning my pain when my mama gave me a Bean-o and an hour later presto-changeo-no pain. I felt a little foolish. Glad you're alive and better!

So true. Heavenly Father DOES answer prayers. I love those moments in our lives that remind us we are not alone and we have somewhere watching over us, always ready and willing to help us if we do what is right!!

And...are you seriously not gonna tell us the thrift store you shop at? Because ALL of those outfits were UH-MAE-ZING and definitely affordable. And...my wardrobe is in SERIOUS need of a pick me up that my budget can't quite afford. Sad day.

Jenn with Two N's said...

The exact same thing happened to me and my big sister was FREAKING OUT so she dragged me to the hospitial where they literally ran every test possibly. I did not have appendicitis nor did I have an orvairan cyst. Finally, after 6 hours of being poked at they told me they had no idea what was wrong with me and sent me home. They ran $5,000 worth of tests. Sicknast isn't it.

SO all that to say, good thinking to sit back and pray and not panic and rush yourself to the hospital because you were convinced your appendix were about to explode inside your body at any moment.

And I LOVE everything you got! The dress/leggings/sweater/belt combo is my favey fave

AND AND you so said y'all, and it made me smile all over my face.

Lindsay and Dano said...

Man you were NOT kidding when you said you got some good thrifting in this weekend!!! HOT MAMA!!!

You've inspired me! SUch cute stuff- and I especially love the flower you made for the cardigan! Genius! What a perfect place for a stain! :p And may I just say you are freaking skinny! And I wish I could pull of belts like you can. SOOOO dang cute

Oh and I'm so glad you did NOT have to go to the hospital! I love answers to prayers.

Yay for the winner, SALENA!

Chad and Jessica said...

Holy canoli, I thought I was good at thrifting, but you're AMAZING! That rosette? GENIUS! Everything is simply fabulous! The seeming of the top on #3 looks so chic....and it looks like it was tailored to fit you....perfect find!

I'm sorry about the gas. I'm a week from my pregnancy due date and last week I was having the WORST pains in my stomach. I didn't know what was going on...I was thinking...is my baby dying? are these contractions? AHHH! IT WAS GAS!!! Infamous lil bugga!

Missy said...

I am the biggest thrift store junkie so we definitely have that in common. I could seriously go thrift store shopping ever day if I didn't have kids to tend to and a bills to pay. I spent 2 hours at goodwill on Saturday (50% off= woot woot!) and got me some cute stuff for dirt cheap. Love that dress/sweater/leggings combo! So cute!

Lauren said...

Soooo cute.
Can I be honest... I've never bought anything at thrift store.. yikes!
Time to start!!! You are a babe, gas and all!

Tori :) said...

YAY for gas!! ;)

I'm pretty much the worst dresser ever.

That is all.

Brett and Em Randall said...

um ok i love all of your thrift store finds!!! i love going to a thrift store and leaving with 100's of dollars worth of clothes and only paying 20 bucks!!! priceless!! the houndstooth dress.... not gonna lie.... so jealous and wants it! it looks adorable on you! i found a pencil skirt like that at a thrift store and its probably been one of my better finds!! enjoy!!!

Heffalump said...

Wow you're cute! And so are your thrift store finds.
I'm glad to hear it was just gas and not impending doom. Somebody told me once that if it is appendicitis you can tell by jumping up and down. If it hurts more doing that, it is, and if it stops hurting while you are jumping, then it isn't. Who knows if it works, but so far I have never had it hurt when I jump and I still have my appendix.

Natalie said...

urmmm..you could share your thrifty location with me if you'd like :-P

Heather said...

seriously nothing like that would come out of a thrift store in our little town.... jealous.
